What You Will Do


The objective of the course will be for the students to produce a short documentary film between 5-10 minutes in length which focuses on a protagonist from their assigned NGO. The film will seek to tell the protagonist’s story and through that, the work of the NGO.Film in Action
Students will be involved in an intensive short documentary filmmaking course with time split between classroom based theory lessons, practical filmmaking workshops, field research and production. Working in small groups of four students, each student will have a clearly defined role and responsibility during the course, be it as cinematographer, director, editor or producer.

The objective of the course will be for the students to produce a short documentary film between 5-10 minutes in length which focuses on a protagonist from their assigned NGO. The film will seek to tell the protagonist’s story and through that, the work of the NGO. The film will not be a promotional film but rather a narrative based documentary which the NGO can later use to fundraise and increase the awareness of their work. The course schedule will be broken down into the three stages of production; pre-production, production and post-production with a variety of theory sessions and teaching methods used that a focus on working with the local community and maximizing time in the field.
